Faculty Coursepack Information

Coursepacks are anthologies of various materials, such as journal articles, chapters from books and the professor's own work, submitted by the faculty to the Bookstore for production.
The Bookstore obtains legal copyright clearance to reproduce and sell the material.  The Bookstore monitors sales, reports the sales to the copyright holder and forwards payments of copyright fees.

For further information please contact the Coursepack Coordinator at 250.472.4589.

Submission Deadlines

2008 Coursepack Submission Deadlines

  • MAY COURSES: March 10th
  • JUNE COURSES: April 7th
  • JULY COURSES: May 5th
  • AUGUST COURSES: June 2nd
  • FALL TERM: June 9th
  • WINTER TERM: October 13th

Late Submissions

Coursepacks received after the above dates may not be ready for the start of classes, however, a coursepack can always be created, even if the deadline had passed or if your course has already started.
We realize that sometimes teaching staff are assigned classes at the last minute.  Every effort will be made to accommodate late coursepack submissions in such instances.

Submission Guidelines

Please submit the following:

  • One legible copy of each item to be included.
  • Complete bibliographic information as outlined on the Copyright Acknowledgment Reference Sheet.
  • A short note of permission from the author of any unpublished work.
  • A completed adoption form. Please indicate if you wish to use a coursepack you have used before (eg. “same as F07”) and the number of desk copies required.
  •  Please adhere to copyright limits.  They are a legal requirement and are not flexible

Printing Options

  • Coursepacks are spiral bound and double sided.  If you would prefer yours to be three-hole punched or single sided please let us know.  As of April 2008, coursepacks will no longer be shrink wrapped.
  • If you have special information you would like included on your cover please let us know.

Tips!

If you wish to use web pages, particularly government ones, it is cheaper and more efficient to either provide the links to your students or set up links with the library e-reserve. This will save your students copyright and printing fees.
If you are reusing material from a coursepack produced after the summer of 2004 you don’t need to resubmit the originals! These documents are stored in a digital database.
Your originals will be returned to you with one complimentary desk copy. If you require additional desk copies for teaching assistants please let us know at the time of submission. After the order has been printed additional copies must be purchased.
We are not able to make coursepacks from sheet music due to the excessive royalties charged and difficulties in obtaining permission
